Family-hiking on the Nassfeld in Austria

Garnitzenklamm Gorge with Heinz.

We drive to Möderndorf, the entrance of the Garnitzenklamm Gorge, by car.
From here we’ll conquer Carinthia’s most beautiful gorge, also known as the “long one”. Of the six sections of the gorge, we will explore the first three. A fascinating and breath-taking natural spectacle of roaring waterfalls, big and small awaits us. The return route takes us back to the gorge entrance via St. Urbani. Stop at the Gasthof zur Garnitzenklamm. Surefootedness and a head for heights are required.

The fee for entering the gorge is € 2.50/person.

Tasting time with Hans Plattner.

Setting out at around 10:15 a.m. from Hotel Gartnerkofel, our tour will take us to the show dairy up on the Tressdorfer Alm via the Rossalm. Tour of the cheese dairy. Our return route takes us to the sun terrace of Alpenhotel Plattner.

Golf tasting.

All beginnings are difficult and it takes quite an effort to embark on a new sport.
We’d like to give you some insight into the world of golf. Experience your first contact with the fascinating world of golf. Expert golf players will explain the rules of the game, the course, the equipment and demonstrate the different types of golf clubs there are. Have a great game!

Nordic walking with Christof.

Starting out at Hotel Gartnerkofel, our route will take us past the Tressdorfer Alm to the Rossalm and back to the Sonnenalpe Nassfeld.

Sunrise walk with Martin.

Let’s enjoy the magnificent sunrise together on the Auernig. Starting out at the hotel, we pass Alpenhotel Plattner and carry on to the Watschiger Alm and up to the Auernig. After such a demanding walk, we deserve a decent breakfast at the Alpenhotel Plattner. This hike is pure pleasure. Ask the landlord and he’ll agree.

Walk to the Egger Alm with Hans Plattner.

Starting at Hotel Gartnerkofel, we first walk to Alpenhotel Plattner where you’ll meet hiking guide Hans. The tour takes us uphill to the Garnitzentörl, then downhill to the Garnitzenalm – a path lined with mountain pine takes us through beautiful woodlands and on to the “Stutenboden” and along the Zielkofel. After a short uphill climb, we reach a forest path that will take us to the Kerstnitzenalm and on along a hunter’s pathway to the Schlosshüttensattel before we reach the Egger Alm where we make a stop.

Gartnerkofel with Hans.

You’ll meet the hiking guide at Alpenhotel Plattner. The tour first takes you past the Watschiger Alm to the wayside shrine below the Gartnerkofel cliff, carry on heading east to the Gartnerkofel, past the mountain station of the 4-seater chair lift, and, finally, you head north-east to the Gartnerkofel-Thörl. We reach the summit by climbing a steep slope.

Geotrail Hike – Garnitzenklamm Gorge

The Garnitzen stream gorge with its many waterfalls has been made accessible with alpine rock climbing facilities, mountain paths and bridges. The entire trail is divided into four sections. A tour through all sections right to where the gorge ends takes about 2 ½ hours. From the gorge entrance (630m) to its end (about 1,125m), the Garnitzen Gorge has a length of about 4km and a difference in altitude of about 500m.
The Garnitzen Gorge was formed on the one hand by a geological fault in the mountains and on the other by the water flowing down from the glaciers that melted after the last ice age. Let Georg and Norbert introduce you to the world of geology!

Explore the diversity of regional alpine herbs with our trained herb educator Alexandra! Get an insight into the wide range of herbs growing in our surroundings. Identify herbs, learn about their main health benefits and how to use them in daily life!

Culinary alpine pasture hike.

Let our mountain dairy farmers give you a treat! Enjoy alpine delicacies straight from the producers outdoors in the fresh air! You’ll be taken to the Rattendorfer Alm by taxi. That is the starting point of our walk which will take us up to the Tröpolacher Alm and on to the Rudnigalm. Our destination is the Madritsche mountain station from where you can continue your journey to the Tressdorfer Alm by taking the Millennium Express.

Barefoot walking.

Pure fun and feel that sense of wellbeing flow through your body, mind and soul with every step you take. The rediscovery of the most natural way of getting from one place to another! Get to know the feeling of freedom and naturalness and enjoy the sheer pleasure of feeling the earth with the naked soles of your feet. You can experience all of this along the “Aqua Trail – Mountain Water”, the adventure trail on the Madritsche.

Summit hike Rosskofel.

Mountain guide Erich will take you on a rock climbing tour of one of our most popular and beautiful summits in the Nassfeld region – the Rosskofel (2,240m). Up on the summit, your reward will be a spectacular panoramic view of all of the mountain ranges in Carinthia, Slovenia and Italy. In clear weather you might even be able to get a peek of the Upper Adriatic Sea.  Starting out at the Madritsche mountain station, you will hike along the new adventure trail called “Aqua Trail” down to the reservoir. At its southern shore, you start the tour by crossing the extremely fascinating and exciting scree covered in huge broken rock fragments. Next, the tour takes you up to the impressive vertical north face to the west of the Rosskofel. At the foot of the Rosskofel, we turn east and after crossing two terraces among lush flowering meadows we reach the summit in about half an hour.

Tröger Tour with Hans Plattner.

Starting out at the Alpenhotel, we hike to the Kammleiten (1,998m) and then we head for the Trögerhöhen and then walk along the Jägersteig. Stop at the Kühweger Alm (1,558m). Returning to the hotel, we first reach the Kühweger Törl before arriving at Alpenhotel Plattner.

Lake Wolayersee with Hans Plattner.

We drive to the Valentinalm with private passenger cars (1 ½ hour drive). Just below the spectacular rocky scenery our route takes us uphill for about 2 ½ hours to the Kellerwand and Hohe Warte (the highest mountain in the Carnic Alps). Approx. 30 minutes descent to Lake Wolayersee. Stop at mountain hut. Very beautiful but demanding hike.

Lake Weissensee with Granddad Plattner.

We drive by (private) car to Hermagor and on to Weißbriach to Lake Weissensee.
Lake Weissensee is the highest lake suitable for bathing in Carinthia (930m). The lake has a population of fish that includes pike, pikeperch, carp and trout. Along the lake’s shore are white banks of chalk which gave the lake its name (White Lake). Our walk will take us from Neusach along the lakeshore to Ronacherfels (smallish rock face) to Ortsee. We return to our starting point by ship (about € 5.00).

Cima di Terra Rossa with Martin.

We first drive by private passenger car to Pontebba – Chiusaforte and on to the Pecol Alm.
After half an hours walk we reach the Brazza hut. Above the hut we have a great view of the broad ridge of the Cime Cambon. which slopes down to the alpine pasture with stretches of rocks and grass. Our mountain path will take us across this mountainside with splendid views of the Kanin.
After that we reach the summit – Cima di Terra Rossa.
If we’re lucky we might be able to spot some Alpine ibex on this tour. Final stop at the Pecol Alm.
This tour is even worthwhile if you’re not much of a hiker. During the hike you can stay on the mountain pastures. These are the biggest alpine pastures that can be found in Friuli – and this is where the well-known Montasio cheese comes from.

Zottachkofel with Hans Plattner.

We drive to Tröpolach by private passenger car from where we continue to the Rattendorfer Alm (1,535m). A short and steep ascent awaits us. After that we reach an easy and interesting fixed rope route which will take us to the summit. Surefootedness and a head for heights are required. The descent takes us from the Rattendorfer Sattel (1,783m) on to the Zankl hut and then to the Rattendorfer Alm. No places to stop.
Any guests who don’t want to go up to the top of the mountain are also welcome to go on a leisurely walk without guide.

Four-Mountain-Pasture Hike with Oskar.

Setting out from Hotel Gartnerkofel, we pass Alpenhotel Plattner and the Watschiger Alm and hike to the mountain station of the Gartnerkofel chairlift. We continue our hike across the Garnitzenalm to the Ofenalm and the Auernigalm and return back to the hotel at a leisurely pace.
No places to stop! Please take a packed lunch with you!

Autumn hike with Oskar

Setting out at Hotel Gartnerkofel, we pass the Watschiger Alm and carry on to the Kühweger Thörl (1,914m) and to the Kammleiten (1,998m) with a view of the Gailtaler Alps.
On this walking tour you’ll have a chance to see some marmots. We continue at the foot of the Gartnerkofel to the chairlift mountain station.
From there we have a breath-taking view of the peaks of the Julian Alps.
Our return route takes us back to Hotel Gartnerkofel.
